Mummies have been found all over the world; in North, Central, and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and even such places as the Canary Islands.

History gives us many examples of mummification, both ancient and recent. We find that mummification was practiced by many diverse people and cultures ranging from Jewish to Buddhist, Egyptian to Christian until it became an instrument of modern horror.

Definition: the word for a dead embalmed body, which comes from the Persian mum, 'wax', alluding to the custom of anointing the body with wax and other chemical substances to prepare it for burial and to preserve it from decay. Also, any body that has been naturally well preserved.
